Mother's Day

Hello Everyone!  Today I am honoring the Mother's that mean the most to me in the world! My Mother Connie, My Grandmother's Hazel and Marilyn and my Sister Kelly. Each one of these women have molded me into the person I am today.  I love them each dearly and want to show everyone how beautiful they are inside and out.

I have been very blessed to have an amazing childhood and adult relationship with my Mother. One of our major ties as adults has been our love of design. She is where I received my eye for design and my passion for creating a home not just having a house.  She also taught me that you can have a beautiful home by shopping locally hitting  resale shops, auctions and local stores to find the perfect piece to turn your space into the room you have always dreamed of! I continue to work with her on projects daily and love sharing everything she has taught me with my clients.  Thank you Mom, I love you!
I wish this was a better picture (on left) of my Grandmother Hazel, Mother of 8!, but this picture explains her perfectly.  She was an amazing godly woman of strength and quiet courage that was a blessing to everyone she met.  Her smile, laugh and folded hands in prayer our greatly missed everyday. I love you Grandma!
My Grandmother Marilyn, Mother of 4, continues to brighten my weeks with handwritten letters and cards!  Living right down the street  as a child allowed us for  weekly visits to hang out. During our visits we would talk through whatever issue was concerning me at the time over yummy treats, or a big bowl of fresh green beans that we would snap while we talked in preparation for dinner. When I was younger I was always excited for our sleepovers at grandma's house where she would wake me up with the smell of my favorite breakfast, Fried Porkchops in her iron skillet! Thank you Grandma, I love you!
Lastly my Sister Kelly, Mother of 2.  Sister's are hard to explain in a short paragraph, how do you sum up the ups and downs from childhood disagreements to the amazing respect and love you share for a person every day? My sister is beautiful, funny, loyal and supportive.  She is who I call just to hear a familiar voice and share the most embarrassing stories with. She is the non-judgmental, yet give it to you straight support you need when you have the days where nothing you do is right.  She is also the amazing Mother of my beautiful niece and nephew and the one that helped me figure out how to raise my beautiful baby girl.   She is the PERFECT sister! I love you sis!

What is Interior Design?

What is Interior Design? According to WiseGeek.com "Interior design is a discipline that looks after designing all of the interiors of a space. This can include things like flooring, windows, doors, walls, lighting, furniture, and miscellaneous design pieces."

As a designer this definition although very correct barley scratches the surface. Interior design to me is  the  placement of someone's life and personality throughout a room. As an Interior Decorator I have the incredible task of taking who you are as a person, a couple, or a family and finding the pieces and styles that not only portray who you are, but tell the story of where you have been and where you are going.

One of my college professor's once told me "not to over design a room, they said that as a designer you can make the most beautiful room in the world, but if it does not portray the person who is living in it they will never be comfortable there."

These words to me were incredibly profound and I believe that these words helped shape me into the designer that I am today. It is amazing that everything we do in life is a reflection of who we are and what we love. What reflection are you hoping the world see's in you?  What is the reflection you want of your business? If it is anything short of who you are and what you want others to know about you, it is never to late to start showing the world the person you truly are.

This snapshot from stik.com is very special to me. My goal is to achieve great customer service at Design With Your Dime in Mind. Thank you to everyone I have met or designed for, you have all become part of my story and I feel truly blessed to become part of yours through design!

Khloe Kardashian Inspired - Glam Office

Our Traditional Glam office is complete!  Last Friday DWYDiM, Chee Photography and Pamela Kramer went to the home of Lidia Ferrufino to photograph and shoot video of her redesigned office.

Have you ever seen a design online that you just loved? Our client's love of Khloe Kardashian's office inspired the elements of this room.  Our client's favorite piece in Khloe Kardashian's office was her amazing mirrored desk!  Having that to go by we started our search for pieces that would fit the glam of the inspiration room, but also incorporate the traditional pieces that already existed in the space.

What we used to create this space:

Pottery Barn mirrored desk
Pier 1 Damask chair, rug and peacock accessories
Garden Ridge for shelves and accessories (Existing)
Hobby Lobby for accessories
Target for Benches (existing)
JCPenny Home Store for curtains (existing)
Couch came from Rooms To Go (existing)

We are so happy with the transformation of this Formal Sitting room into an office that our client can use to work on her fashion website, House of Alice Rose!

Just for fun, here is a short clip of our outtakes! Hope you enjoy.

Mirrored walls

Before Mirrored wall
Hello Everyone! Today I wanted to talk with you about the mirrored walls.  We have all seen these, and some of us have even purchased an older home with these walls installed.

 The Benefits:

~This can make a small room feel large by tricking your eye into believing there is more space.

~This can also make a dark room feel brighter due to the reflective surface.

The Cons:

~Limited wall space for decoration

~Sometimes it can make a room feel dated.

What we used to create visual interest on this focal point wall:

After Design Mirrored wall
First, we arranged the furniture to make this wall pop as soon as you entered the space by placing the sofa in front of the mirror with a sofa table directly behind.  We then purchased two matching buffet lamps to frame out the area we were highlighting and to also give an amazing glow off of the mirrored wall at night. Next we found greenery to fill the empty center of the buffet table. For the mirror itself we purchased 2 LIGHT WEIGHT canvas prints from Garden Ridge that pulled in the warm colors we wanted to create in the space. We placed these on the mirror (making sure they were level) and attached them with command strips!

When we used these little tricks we turned an average mirrored wall into a focal point for years to come!
