Lights, Camera, Action!

Today we shot our first video of a completed Master Bedroom.  In the past I have always opted out of the live videos and always just posted the before and after shots of our work. As you can see by the video's outtakes, I have tons of personality until the camera is clicked on :)  After a year of working with my operations manager Pamela Kramer, I am out of excuses and now in front of the camera facing my fears head on in front of You Tube watchers and stepping out of my comfort zone. Thank you for watching and for your ongoing support!!!!  Let's see where this ride will lead us!

What makes the perfect kitchen?

What makes a kitchen perfect for the homeowner? This question is different for every homeowner, some love certain colors or styles they see in magazines, others it is all in the appliances and cabinet and counter space.  This is what makes kitchen design so complex and also so enjoyable! Each time a designer is faced with a kitchen redesign the possibilities are almost endless.  This is where finding the essence of who a client is becomes unbelievably important in the satisfaction of that client with the end result.

 My Client:
The homeowners are transitional in their taste and love pops of the color blue and everything else neutral and calming.  When discussing their likes and past travels etc during the consultation the homeowners mentioned their love of Italy and brick ovens. As well as there tendency towards clean lines and no fuss design.

As we started designing the kitchen back splash I decided that I wanted to put a modern twist on a brick oven.  In order to do this we found the tiles that look like wood planks and had an inset put in above the stove.  The rest of the back splash is made up of a beautiful gray slate with cobalt blue glass inserts. The clients chose a beautiful granite that we used to tie in all of the elements.

The homeowners opted for dual toned cabinets in glacier pewter and sable to tie in with the antique stained bamboo flooring throughout the home.

All of our lighting fixtures were done in an antique bronze and the kitchen hardware is in a brushed nickel finish.

Turning Your Dreams into a Reality

Design With Your Dime in Mind was contacted by friend, client and website owner Lidia Ferrufino to be featured on House of Alice Rose in February. Honored to be a part of such a wonderful website I agreed, below is the link to the interview.

A back story on House of Alice Rose:

House of Alice Rose was created by Lidia Ferrufino and Isabel ElAton as an interactive website for women to come to for fashion, news, love advice and any other topic you can think of. The creators have put a lot of thought, heart and soul into making the website become a great place for women to hang out and talk with and see other positive and empowered women.

I am honored to know one of the creators very well having worked with her on decorating her new homes interior and I can assure you that Lidia's detail oriented mind, positive attitude and amazing fashion sense comes through on this website. I am excited to work with Isabel Elaton closer in the future and support both of these women on their endeavor.

Thank you again House of Alice Rose for featuring me on your website :)

Projects in progress

Hello Everyone! Today I am brain storming for 3 different projects so while I research I am going to attach ideas to the blog

Clients: Married couple with pets

Job: Turn their formal sitting room into an Office

Brainstorming:
Having work with the client before, I know that the lady of the house loves glitz and glam, but also wants to keep a formal feel and an inviting space for her husband to work as well. Client loves traditional furniture with ornate details in all of the wood.

Items that stay in the room after transformation:
~ warm yellow wall color
~Existing window treatments Beautiful!!!
~engineered wood floors
~ledges that hold family photos and artwork
~metal and iron scroll artwork
~traditional style loveseat
~accent table
~fake tree
~endtable
~traditional lamps

Borrowing from extras in the house:
To add the masculinity into the space I would like to add two leather topped stools with wood leg bases

Additional items needed to complete the space: 2 mirrored desks to make more work space and glam:

Still looking for the perfect chair. I will fine tune the room from here, but this is the general scheme we are going from to do the room. As soon as the shopping and installation are complete, I will post the final outcome.

Why Shop with an Interior Designer or Decorator?

"We actually went to Target at the same time.  I was in Virginia Beach, she was in Orlando and we "shopped" together to find things that we both liked.  We were both running around two different Target's with our kid, huge area rugs, pillows, curtains.....you name it.  We had our own little "living room" set up right in the middle of the aisles!  LOL So much fun!! It was super economical, super fun and my rooms look absolutely amazing."

Virginia Beach, VA

"Furniture is expensive and I didn't want to make expensive mistakes by making bad choices.  Karen helped me think things through, make choices, and shop.  She actually put the rooms together so they looked just right."

Everything about decorating your home should be fun and exciting!  This is not always the case if you are not sure what your plan is or where to find the pieces you are looking for. What starts out as a fun day shopping can quickly end up with sticker shock, long lines, buyers remorse and stress.  None of these are necessary!

When you hire a designer/decorator to shop you will:

~ Have a plan as to what to buy, what sizes you need and what to bring with you on your shopping day

~You will have the confidence of a valuable second opinion on your purchases.

~ The questions of, Will this work? Can I get this somewhere else at a better price? Are gone!

~Decorators will save you time and money knowing where to go for what items and the best price to find them.

~Shopping with a Designer can be fun and easy going....or you can decide to pay your designer to go out and purchase the items while you are relaxing at home!!!

Shopping with a designer or having a designer shop for you does not only have to be for large purchases, it can be for something as small as finding the perfect vase, towels or lamps.

Just remember, designers love the entire design process and look forward to helping you along the way to your dream home!
